Prayers for Sleeping
Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa al-ḥayyu al-qayyūm. Lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm. Lahu mā fī al-samāwāti wa mā fī al-arḍ. Man dhā alladhī yashfaʿu ʿindahu illā bi'idhnih. Yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum, wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shay'in min ʿilmihi illā bimā shā'. Wasiʿa kursiyyuhu al-samāwāti wa al-arḍ, wa lā ya'ūduhu ḥifẓuhumā wa huwa al-ʿaliyyu al-ʿaẓīm.
Translation
Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. .
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلۡحَيُّ ٱلۡقَيُّومُۚ لَا تَأۡخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٞ وَلَا نَوۡمٞۚ لَّهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِي يَشۡفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِهِۦۚ يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيۡءٖ مِّنۡ عِلۡمِهِۦٓ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَۚ وَسِعَ كُرۡسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَۖ وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفۡظُهُمَاۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيُّ ٱلۡعَظِيمُٓ

Translation
Say: Allah is One.Allah is self-sufficient.He neither begets nor is born,and there is none equal to Him.Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Daybreak,from the evil of whatever He has created,and from the evil of the dark night when it settles,and from the evil of those who blow upon knots,and from the evil of the envier when he envies.Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind,the King of mankind,the Allah of mankind,from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws,the one who whispers in the hearts of mankind,whether he be from among the jinn or mankind. .
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِقُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِقُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِي ٱلۡعُقَدِ وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ مِن شَرِّ ٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِ ٱلۡخَنَّاسِ ٱلَّذِي يُوَسۡوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِبِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ مِن شَرِّ ٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِ ٱلۡخَنَّاسِ ٱلَّذِي يُوَسۡوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ
Āmana ar-Rasūlu bimā unzila ilayhi min rabbihi wal-mu’minūn. Kullun āmana bi-Allāhi wa-malā’ikatihi wa-kutubihi wa-rusulihi. Lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin min rusulihi. Wa qālū sami‘nā wa-aṭa‘nā. Ghufrānaka rabbanā wa-ilayka al-maṣīr. Lā yukallifu Allāhu nafsan illā wus‘ahā. Lahā mā kasabat wa-‘alayhā mā iktasabat. Rabbanā lā tu’ākhidhnā in-nasīnā aw akhṭa’nā. Rabbanā wa-lā taḥmil ‘alaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahu ‘alā alladhīna min qablinā. Rabbanā wa-lā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bihi. Wa‘fu ‘annā wa-ghfir lanā wa-rḥamnā. Anta mawlānā fa-anṣurnā ‘alā al-qawmi al-kāfirīn.
Translation
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have believed in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers, (saying), “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. (We ask) Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final return.” Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. Whatever (good) it earns will be for its benefit, and whatever (evil) it incurs will be against it. "Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make mistakes. Our Lord, do not place a burden on us as You placed on those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with that which we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our protector, so grant us victory over the disbelievers." .
ءَامَنَ ٱلرَّسُولُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡهِ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَۚ كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيۡنَ أَحَدٖ مِّن رُّسُلِهِۦۚ وَقَالُواْ سَمِعۡنَا وَأَطَعۡنَاۖ غُفۡرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيۡكَ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ 285 لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتۡ وَعَلَيۡهَا مَا ٱكۡتَسَبَتۡۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذۡنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوۡ أَخۡطَأۡنَاۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَيۡنَآ إِصۡرٗا كَمَا حَمَلۡتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِنَاۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلۡنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦۖ وَٱعۡفُ عَنَّا وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَآۚ أَنتَ مَوۡلَىٰنَا فَٱنصُرۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
Bismika rabbī waḍa‘tu janbī, wa bika arfa‘uhū, fa-in amsakta nafsī fa-rḥamhā, wa in arsaltahā fa-iḥfaẓhā, bimā taḥfaẓu bihi ‘ibādaka aṣ-ṣāliḥīn.
Translation
O my Lord, with Your name, I lay down my side (on the bed), and with Your name, I will raise it. So if You take my soul, have mercy on it, and if You send it back, protect it as You protect Your righteous servants. .
بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي، وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، فَإِن أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ۔
Allāhumma khalaqta nafsī wa anta tawaffāhā, laka mamātuhā wa maḥyāhā, in aḥyaytahā fa-iḥfaẓhā, wa in amattahā fa-ighfir lahā. Allāhumma innī as’aluka al-‘āfiyah.
Translation
O Allah! You created my soul, and You will take it back. Its death and life are in Your control. If You keep it alive, then protect it, and if You cause it to die, then forgive it. O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for well-being. .
اللَّهُمَّ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي، وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا، لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ۔
Allāhumma qinī ‘adhābaka yawma tab‘athu ‘ibādak.
Translation
O Allah! Protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants. .
اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ
Allāhumma bismika amūtu wa aḥyā.
Translation
O Allah! I die and live by Your name. .
اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Subḥān-Allāh, wal-ḥamdu li-Allāh, wal-Lāhu Akbar
Translation
Glory is to Allah, recite 33 times. All praise is due to Allah, recite 33 times. Allah is the Greatest, recite 34 times. .
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ (ثلاثاً وثلاثين) وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ (ثلاثاً وثلاثين) وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ (أربعاً وثلاثينَ)
Allāhumma rabba as-samāwāti as-sab‘i wa rabba al-ardhi, wa rabba al-‘arshi al-‘aẓīm, rabbanā wa rabba kulli shay’in, fāliqa al-ḥabbi wal-nawā, wa munzila at-Tawrāti wal-Injīli wal-Furqān, a‘ūdhu bika min sharri kulli shay’in anta ākhidhun bināṣiyatihī. Allāhumma anta al-awwalu falaysa qablaka shay’un, wa anta al-ākhiru falaysa ba‘daka shay’un, wa anta az-ẓāhiru falaysa fawqaka shay’un, wa anta al-bāṭinu falaysa dūnaka shay’un, iqḍi ‘annā ad-dayna wa aghninā min al-faqr.
Translation
O Allah! Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Earth, and Lord of the magnificent Throne! O our Lord and Lord of everything! O Splitter of the seed and the date stone! And O Descender of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an! I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything whose forelock You hold. O Allah! You are the First, and nothing is before You. You are the Last, and nothing is after You. You are the Most High, and nothing is above You. You are the Hidden, and nothing is hidden from You. Please settle our debt and free us from poverty, making us rich. .
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبَّ الأَرْضِ، وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، رَبَّنَا وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى، وَمُنْزِلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ، وَالْفُرْقَانِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ. اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الأَوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الآخِرُ فَلَيسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْءٌ، اِقْضِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ وَأَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْرِ۔
Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī aṭ‘amanā wa saqānā, wa kafānā, wa āwānā, fa kam mimman lā kāfiya lahu wa lā mu’wī.
Translation
All praise is for Allah, who fed us, gave us drink, sufficed us, and provided us shelter. How many are there who have no one to suffice them or give them shelter! .
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا، وَكَفَانَا، وَآوَانَا، فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لَا كَافِيَ لَهُ وَلَا مُؤْوِيَ۔
